Oregano fields before harvest.

Thousands of years ago  people already knew that the working of the Oregano plant a good remedy was against diarrhoea. They used the leaves for tea.

In the last century people find out the through steam distillation to make oil of the oregano plants. With  the active components in the oil they find out the anti bacterial working. The main active components are Carvacrol and Thymol. These components can stop and even kill bacteria's.

There are different oregano species, not al the species are suitable for the use in our products.

The oregano die Ropapharm produces are  oreganum vulgare ssp and oreganum ornythes.   These species have a high amount of carvacrol, thymol en P.cymeen  the use of these oils for animals is developed and patented by ROPAPHARM.

The genus Origanum has great morphological and chemical  characteristics. The genus has 49 species divided in 10 subspecies. The origanum species has an distribution around the Mediterranean sea .

The species Origanum vulgare is distributed in Eurasia and Northern Africa . The leaves of the oregano plant have hares which contain oils. These oils give the plant the powerful flavour.
